Yucca Management

Yucca schidigera is a plant native to the deserts of Baja California and Sonora Mexico, it is rich in naturally occurring saponins which are responsible for its uses as foaming, wetting and dispersing agents. As the leading supplier, Desert King is able to meet the growing need for the highest quality Yucca schidigera products.

Selection of Raw Material

Once a colony of Yucca plants is identified for harvesting, Desert King harvests no more than 50% of the harvestable specimens. This process entails counting, measuring, and GPS tagging all individuals within a 1000 sq. meter area to develop an Environmental Impact Report. All current raw material is obtained from wild harvest, however, Desert King has developed experimental Yucca plantations to assure a continued renewable supply for years to come.

Responsible Harvesting Techniques

Desert King International in conjunction with its affiliate Desert King Mexico follows all the rules and regulations set forth by the Mexican Forestry Department, to insure that the Yucca extraction rate is not more than the plant’s natural recovery rate

Strict Maturity Standards

All Yucca specimens must meet strict maturity standards, this includes being free of green leaves on more than 80% of the plant’s height.
DKI strives to stay abreast of all legal issues pertaining to Yucca schidigera harvesting and follows strict forest management plans working hand in hand with communal land owners.
